| About Dr. Vaccaro: Dr. Vaccaro, MD is Board Certifed in Radiation
Oncology and has practiced in the field for more than 10 years. Besides being a medical
doctor he is a licensed engineer. He holds a degree in Bio-Medical Engineering from
Carnegie-Mellon University and a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Pittsburgh. This varied educational background gives Dr. Vaccaro a unique insight into the
field of Radiation Oncology.
His training in Radiation Oncology was done at
Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadephia where they offer one of the country's premier
programs in this form of cancer therapy. During that time he received extensive training
in radioactive implants, intra-operative therapy and use of radioactive pharmeceuticals
and mono-clonal anti-bodies. He also received a research grant from the American Cancer
Society for his work in Breast Cancer.
Dr. Vaccaro received his medical degree the
University of Leicester, Leicester England, and is licensed to practice medicine in the
U.S. and Great Britain. He has an appreciation for the problems encountered by patients
because of his prior work as Medical Director for Hospice of Clinton County. He is a
Principal Investigator for the National Cancer Institute and offers treatment regimen that
are not available at other community cancer centers.
Dr. Vaccaro moved to Plattsburg, New York in
1990 to help develop the program at the Fitzpatrick Cancer Center and to enjoy his love of
the Adirondacks and Lake Champlain. He is an avid water and snow skier. He is a Senior Ski
Patroller and First Aid Instructor for the National Ski Patrol. |
