PREPARING FOR YOUR FIRST VISIT
PREPARING FOR YOUR FIRST VISIT
There will be a great deal of information gathered at your first visit. It is important to bring the following items with you:
A list of doctors you are currently seeing
Laboratory test information, x-rays or other
information given to you by your personal physician
A list of medications you are currently taking and
the dosages prescribed
Health Care Proxy or Living Will (if you do not have
one our registrar can provide you with a Health Care Proxy form)
Social Security Card
Security cards and any insurance forms
Upon arrival at the Cancer Center, you must check in with our receptionist. She can answer any questions you may have and keep you informed of changes or delays.
Next our registrar will ask you a series of questions and explain our billing procedures. The registrar can also answer any questions you may have about insurance coverage. Once this interview is completed, you will be asked to return to the reception area.
The Cancer Center's on-site laboratory services provide an added convenience for you. If it's required, you will have blood drawn by one of our medical technologists. In many cases, your blood will be processed so your physician can have the test results at this first visit.
Based on the recommendations of your personal physician, you will be scheduled to see either a medical or radiation oncologist. Some patients see both.
